Here’s an easy way of setting things right when they are obviously wrong in the first place. Just do a switch !
This is a quote from a disturbed person taken from nature news sidelines:
“Love of God and compassion and empathy leads you to a very glorious place, and science leads you to killing people.”
Setting it right by switching God and Science:
“Love of science and compassion and empathy leads you to a very glorious place, and God leads you to killing people.”
Now, when the right order is restored like this, the statement is almost divine in it’s simplicity, isn’t ?
Now, I cannot say I disagree with the re-ordering of the words, but while some sectors of our society are relatively open minded there are some who would never consider you re-ordering as possible and will simply see it as inflammatory. I’d much prefer to discuss the ins and outs of the latest scientific discovery than waste daylight hours debating the incompatabilities of science and religion (that is best reserved for late night drinking sessions among people who will not come to blows over the outcome)

Thank you for insightful comment. I agree that my re-ordering can be seen as (continuing the) inflammation. And for the record, I am not anti-religion the same way Richard Dawkins, and friends, are (see my post R. Dawkins: An evangelical atheist). I just thought that the original statement was so off target and tried to illustrate that by showing how the statement was valid even when the subjects where swapped around. And, although I agree that the Science vs Religion debate can sometimes be a bit much, I do think the debate is an important one.
